A pair of teams heading in opposite directions finish out their three game series on Thursday night when the Cardinals host the Marlins from Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Even with 2-12 Anthony Reyes on the hill, the Cards are a healthy –160 favorite.

St. Louis (61-62) hit three home runs against Florida (56-71) in a 6-4 win Wednesday night, has hit five in the series and 15 in its last seven games. The Marlins, meanwhile, have allowed 12 homers during a season-worst eight-game losing streak, and are a loss shy of their longest skid since dropping 10 in a row from June 14-25, 1999.

The Cardinals have won three straight and 10 of 12 overall, and have 10 wins in their last 12 games against the Marlins. Now, St. Louis will face Florida rookie Rick VandenHurk (3-4, 7.36 ERA), who has struggled in his first 13 starts.

The right-hander is 0-2 with a 9.69 ERA in his last three outings. He allowed four runs and seven hits in 5 2-3 innings of a 4-3 loss to San Francisco on Saturday night.

St. Louis will counter with Reyes, who is coming off yet another loss. The right-hander gave up five runs and four hits in six innings of a 5-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. This will be Reyes' first career start against the Marlins.

Today’s top rated StatFox Power Trend revolves around Reyes’ failure to beat even the poor teams: REYES is 1-10 (-12.5 Units) against the money line when playing against a bad team (Win Pct. 38% to 46%) over the last 2 seasons. (Team's Record) The average score was REYES 3.0, OPPONENT 4.2 - (Rating = 4*)

Like the first two games of the series, the betting public figures to side with the Cards. However, this might be a good opportunity to fade the heavy chalk. Follow the Betting Trends page this afternoon and pounce when the time is right.
